M2M NUMBER MIGRATION NOTICE

Following a recent ruling by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), Ctrack customers’ vehicle tracking numbers will be changing from 10 digits to a completely new 14 digit machine-to-machine (M2M) number. The industry is having to move to 14 digit numbers in order to accommodate future growth, given the limitations on the existing number range.

The rollout is expected to happen across South Africa in the coming months. All numbers must be migrated by 24 March, 2017.

A new vehicle tracking number will automatically be allocated to you and updated on our system. Our web based tracking applications, Ctrack Online and Ctrack Mobi, will operate as normal, giving you uninterrupted service and full visibility of your vehicle(s). We will advise you of your new cellular tracking number, with prefixes 096, 097 or 098, once the migration has taken place.

Please replace your existing vehicle tracking number with this new number to use for your own tracking purposes, such as locating your vehicle via SMS.

Ctrack South Africa (Pty) Ltd is committed to ensuring that this transition is successful. We have provided some useful Q&A’s below and, should you still have any queries, you may send an e-mail to support@ctrack.co.za. Alternatively you can contact our Call Centre on 0860 333 444 (Option 5) for Technical Support.

WHAT IS THE AIM OF THE REGULATION?
The dramatic increase in the amount of M2M devices being deployed in South Africa, as well as the expected growth in the market, has made it necessary to create a dedicated number range in order to free up numbers in the traditional voice and data number ranges.

HOW WILL THE CHANGE HAPPEN?

On the date of migration, you will automatically be allocated a completely new, randomly selected dedicated 14 digit number with prefixes 096, 097 and 098 (see example to the right):
