National Taxi Union to install over 100,000 taxis with Ctrack SaaS Solutions

Vehicle tracking and fleet management company Ctrack, a subsidiary of Novatel Wireless (Nasdaq:MIFI) today announced it has signed a partnership with the Cameroon National Taxi Union to provide Ctrack vehicle tracking and driver behaviour monitoring to the taxi industry in the Republic of Cameroon.

Taxis are the primary mode of transportation across the African continent. In Cameroon alone, taxis transport over 8 million commuters daily. The agreement is the country’s first step towards implementing legislation that will mandate all Cameroon taxi operators to have vehicle tracking units installed in their vehicles.

“Ctrack shares our commitment of creating safer roads for all and it shows through the quality of their technology and analytics,” said Augustin Ngangoua, National President of the Cameroon National Taxi Union. “This initiative will not only improve the safety of drivers and passengers, but also other road users and the public in general. Through Ctrack’s commitment, we will engage in talks with the Transport Ministry to enforce the installation of GPS tracking units into all taxis.”

“Ctrack is proud to have won this very competitive bid, which helps solidify our position as a premier global telematics provider,” said Cobus Grove, General Manager, Ctrack Global. “With our advanced telematics offering and technical capability, we managed to meet the client’s business expectations and overall business objectives with driver and passenger safety at the heart of the solution.”

The multi-year agreement will enable the government of Cameroon to provide GPS vehicle tracking, safety and compliance solutions to its more than 100,000 taxis currently operating on the country’s roads.
