It’s almost impossible to accurately assess the true cost of crime in our country. It’s also almost impossible to eradicate it. What we can do, however, is to use our experience and today’s technology to make it a little more difficult for criminals to do what they do, and to make it a little easier for the police to catch them when they’ve transgressed.

Ctrack has introduced new signal jamming detection technology that works hand in hand with Ctrack’s fleet management solution. This is a solution that provides jamming immune tracking for fleets to help combat the costly and deadly scourge of vehicle hijacking.

According to Hein Jordt, MD of Ctrack Fleet Management, Ctrack believes the cargo is predominantly at risk. This, of course, in no way minimises the cost to company or the risk to their drivers.

So how does Ctrack’s jamming detection solution work? It operates on a Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) technology – a form of wireless communication in which the radio frequency is constantly varied.

“There are two goals with this,” explains Jordt. “Recovery of the vehicle is naturally key, but we’re also keen for the system to lead us to where the loot has been taken or to where a truck is being stripped.”

So, what’s being done with regards to trailer recovery? Many customers are opting to install a separate tracking device in a trailer, especially when its cargo is at risk.

“We have to continually evolve our solutions to stay ahead of criminals. Our latest jamming detection solution is enabling us to save hundreds of thousands of rands for our customers already,” concluded Jordt.
